Research Summary

Research Summary

One of the things I did was take part in a focus group this was in the early stages of when I was starting to think of the design and content of my magazine. The focus group contained around 5 people aged 16-17.

The feedback I got from my peers was very positive, also taking into consideration this positive feedback came from my average age from my target audience (16) is very good as this means my magazine is looking conventional and is impressing my target audience meaning the magazine could be a success.

My reader profile for my magazine I made gives a massive insight into the types of people my target audiences are from what brands of clothes they like to favorite artist on average or Internet access they have. This reader profile shows my average age for my audience is 16; the age range is from 16-28. 55% of the audiences are male the other 45% being female, 60% of them are students while 30% have a part time job and 10% have a full time. In conclusion my target audience are quite young and trendy and most have a reasonable amount of money to spend on what they like. Taking all of this information into consideration I am ensuring my magazine will be trendy and appeal to 16-28 range also my magazine won’t be too expensive as I understand the majority of my audience are students or only have a part time job and there main priority will not be too buy a magazine therefore it will be affordable.

The 9 de-constructions I done were a big help to me as I learned a lot about the importance of positioning images and different camera shots and different poses and body language to make the image have a big effect on the reader, I also learned a lot about general things that must be on a magazine such as sell lines, effective pull quotes and also the size of things such as images and font on magazines, all of this will help when designing my magazine. The de-constructions have given me many ideas into what I am going to do with my magazine such as the positioning of my sell lines, the layout of my double page spread and the type of pose, camera shot and facial expression for my front page.

My magazine will be conventional; I am going to make it conventional by adding things that must be on a magazine such as a barcode, issue number and date. However my magazine will also look like a conventional rap magazine as I am going to use some features a lot of rap magazines use such as dark colours, I am going to have serious facial expressions used in my photos as most rap magazines do also I am going to include some of the items in my costume ideas on my blog to make the magazine look more like a rap magazine I am going to use things such as hoodies and snapbacks. All of this together will make my magazine conventional.
