Evaluation question 5
The image you see above is the last piece of written audience feedback I have received. This feedback was targeting mistakes in my magazine and just giving me general feedback on my finished product. They spotted a few errors, which I corrected, and then they gave some good feedback on things such as the colour scheme.
This feedback was very good as I could
see the obvious strengths of my magazine in my target audience’s opinion. Also
it ensure no mistakes were left in my final finished product.
Also I held another focus group to gain
some more knowledge on what my target audience thinks of my finished product
they gave the following responses to these questions:
What draws your attention to the
product?
· - Original title
· -Colour scheme
· - Big rap names (drake, Eminem)
How do you know the genre?
· -The title contains ‘Rap’ in it making it apparent
· -The names mentioned on the front cover all rappers
· -The costume of the front page model
Strengths of the product?
· -Original stand out masthead
· -Stand out colour scheme
· -Well set out
· -Stand out front page (model, fonts)
Would you purchase the product why?
· -Yes as it’s a rap magazine with appealing rap content
· -It’s an overall good magazine with a good price, yes I would
buy it
· -No as it doesn’t contain enough content.
· -No as it is more of a hip hop genre than rap.
How would you improve the product?
· -Add more content, fill the blank space
· -Use more colours within the magazine
· -Better quality images
I am comparing my magazine to this
issue of VIBE. The pose Eminem is using in the VIBE magazine is one I decided
to use in my own magazine however my model has a slight smile and shows more of
his legs, the reason for the smile is too show the magazine isn’t as serious and
is more relaxed and appeals to a younger audience, showing more of the legs
shows more of the fashion of the younger rappers which will also appeal to my
target audience, the VIBE magazine targets Rap and rap only, however my
magazine leans towards the hip hop genre also as this is becoming very popular
with my target audience they like a balance of hip hop and rap.
Also I have noticed that the size
difference in the two mastheads is apparent however I have had positive
feedback on my masthead from most people and no one has challenged this from my
target audience which makes me think its not an issue.
Another difference from my magazine and
VIBE is that VIBE uses darker colours such as black and grey which may not
attract the audience, whereas my magazine has a colour scheme of blue, yellow
and white which are quite positive, bright colours which is more likely to
attract my audience however VIBE magazine will still gain more customers as
they have an iconic rapper on the front cover.
From past audience feedback when I was
making my magazine I changed a lot of
things which my audience suggested such as the whole colour scheme, the type of
front cover image and the image positioning on my contents page this feedback and
the changes made have meant my finished product is now of a much higher
standard and appeals more to my target audience.
Evaluation question 3
What kind of media institution may distribute my
product?
Bauer Media Group
Background Information
Bauer Media Group is a large European-based media company,
headquartered in Hamburg, Germany that manages a portfolio of more than 600
magazines, over 400 digital products and 50 radio and TV stations around the
world.
What they do
Bauer
Media UK reaches over 22 million UK consumers every week through a portfolio of
world-class, multi-platform media and entertainment brands including heat,
Kiss, Grazia, Empire, Magic and Absolute Radio. It creates and curates
entertaining media content that audiences love whenever, wherever and however
they want through a multi-channel strategy and a focus on product excellence
and audience insight.
Magazines they
own and distribute
MOJO- Bauer
media took over this brand in 2008 from Emap. MOJO was first published in 1993.
It is dispersed in the UK selling over 79,000 copies annually.
Q magazine- a
rock magazine first launched in 1986 it has been stated by Bauer Media that Q
magazine is the best actively selling music magazine in the UK.
Kerrang- this
magazine is a well-known rock/heavy metal magazine, as well as being a magazine
it’s also a radio station and a TV music channel.
All three of
these massive magazines have became a success in the UK market, one big reason
for this is how well Bauer Media distributes these magazines ensuring the majority
of the UK have heard of these magazines.
Why they could
distribute my magazine
Bauer media
are very successful and own some very big magazine names however they do not
own a rap magazine. Some would argue that the rap genre is a niche market
however I believe rap magazines just need to be distributed more effectively
and I believe Bauer can do this as there distribution
channels across the UK are very good and effective and they own radio stations
that millions of people listen to in the UK. My magazine is something different
in comparison to other rap magazines out there and I think rap magazines target
more of an American market, however I think my magazine targets the UK market
as my magazine targets young talent and rap icons in one magazine including
fresh talent from the UK therefore I believe my magazine could become more successful
than any other rap magazine if distributed correctly.
My magazine
could be distributed in many ways It could be advertised/featured on one of
there radio stations, also it could be advertised within issues of other
popular magazines they own. Furthermore it could be sold in most general
stores/supermarkets and could be subscribed to online and sent out to peoples
houses, if these methods were carried out successfully by Bauer media my
magazine could in result become very successful making money not only for me
but for Bauer also. Also I think a good way to distribute my magazine is too
make it available to buy and read online and for it also to be available on
things such as tablets and ‘eBook’ and ‘Kindles’ Making it available in every
way possible.
